Welcome to My Kiwi story. This is the fifth in an ongoing series about our dedicated employees and their lives at Kiwi.com. With our VP of Content, Ondřej Cikánek, we discussed what it means to be a VP, what his main drivers are, and what it means to have a work-life balance.
Hi Ondřej, tell us something more about yourself and your job.
My job as the VP of Content means connecting the right people on the right topics to fulfill the content mission. Our mission is to provide the best travel options to all types of customers through all distribution channels. And to do so efficiently. That sounds a bit complicated, but in simpler terms, we need to ensure that we offer the right itinerary at the right price while being bookable. It’s a mission to satisfy the customer across the whole journey — from the initial inspiration through the search and booking processes, up to the final fulfilment. It’s very challenging, but at the same time motivating to make such an impact for the company.
Recently you became a parent. How do you manage both important roles in your life, and how difficult was it to adjust your priorities since becoming a father?
Well, it is tough sometimes. 🙂 Especially when the workload is high and sleep is scarce. I definitely feel more responsibility not just for myself and my work, but also for my family and my teams at work. At the end of the day, the key to staying sane is not stressing too much and finding time for sport and relaxation.
What are your main drivers when it comes to work?
Why I love this job is mainly because of the diversity of activities and people. We’re making an impact for travelers all around the world and writing history in a way. When it comes to my role specifically, being a VP and managing such areas means dealing with people. And I think everyone will agree that this might be a nightmare (laughing). But I must admit that it’s a blessing to do it at Kiwi.com because here, I really do work with smart, dedicated, and hard-working people, and that makes my job much easier.
